Caitlin Johnston

Based in North Auckland, I am a multimedia painter, heavily inspired by the world around us, and the people that live within it. Whether that be the awe inspiring landscape around us and the connection we have to it, memories and nostalgia, or the people that flood this earth - experiences and emotions that we experience during our journey through life. Each artwork of mine tells a story, and is a visual and emotional landscape For years now I have been building my skills on this passion that will forever be mine. Thank you for letting me share it with you! I dont work with usual cotton/linen canvas, rather my works are created on materials that I find around me, like wooden timber, surfboards that have been salted by years of the sea, or beautiful antique frames full of character, these materials become my inspiration for the piece, and my canvas. My work is very unique, using mapping from the area in which I am inspired, mixed media, layers and layers of acrylic, always finished with pure copper, which is usually oxidised. Resin is incorporated into a lot of my works to give the colours a pop. I keep busy with Exhibitions around New Zealand, Commissions, and always forever researching and upskilling my practice.

My work invites you to pause, reflect, and find fragments of your own experience in it. At the heart of my practice is a belief that art should hold presence, not only visually but emotionally. Each piece is made to bring colour, texture, and meaning into a space.
