About this work
Inspired by the Wild West Coast, and drawn from the beautiful Piha Beach. Amazing surf, black sand, wild ocean, Lion Rock at Piha. When we live in New Zealand, the ocean and nature become a big part of us, and our memories. I have incorporated the little yellow sand flowers that dot the coastline of the west coast, along with a figurative black sand derailing. The figure in the painting, represents how the land around us becomes part of us and our memories. This surfboard is more weathered than usual, but I think it matches perfectly the feeling of the Wild West Coast.
